They have five children, including one with Down's syndrome, whom they refused to abort. Palin will bring the whole Republican base home, and some Independent and Democratic women. Palin even blunts Hillary for 2012.

My innitial posting I will admit I was excited. And I am shocked to hear you acuse me a Republican of having an ego. Shocked I say!Com'on, the personality trait of republicans dictate we have egos. If I didn't have an ego I'd be an unmotivated girly man democrat. So there HA!

I am a little disapointed though that you did not see in that posting that issues relevant one year ago are still relevant today energy, environment, corruption. Basically she is a "not Bush" conservative. This makes it harder for the Democrat nominee to paint the Bush brush on her. I believed that Palin would have been a good counterweight to Hiliary back in July 2007. That still rings true against Obama. As well as (I made Alito's wife cry) Joe Biden. I'll put money on her against Biden any day in a debate.

I agree Aaron, Palin is a very strong pick for McCain. She's conservative, young, and is all about change in Washington. As far as Charlie Brown is concerned, those hopes for picking up Moderate Republicans are long gone....

I am extremely pleased that it is not Romney - I can't stand the guy and lots for ordinary Americans feel the same way.

Women will vote for a woman, some 20% or Hillary voters were ready to vote for McCain, Palin will cause many of them to pull the lever and others to take a second look at GOP in November. One thing the choice does is create a true liberal vs. conservative ticket for those of who follow politics. For the embarrassingly large group of 'middle of the road' Americans, a conservative reform minded ticket will get their vote.

First and foremost, to respond to Bob's ridiculous paragraph that Aaron already wisely pointed out, yes, moderate Republican's WILL rush to vote for McClintock. You didn't really think they were all going to say, "Well, our boy Doug lost, so let's just go all the way over to the far left and elect Charlie Brown."? Yeah right! Doug's endorsement is huge for McClintock, and it shows a lot of class by Doug. He is a great man that the 4th District really appreciates and respects, however he was just a little to moderate for them. Bob, I don't see how you come to the conclusions that you do. "We don't want a moderate, we want a liberal." It seems to me they would want the opposite.

Second, Obama's speech last night was a disaster. I'll give him this, he can deliver a speech. Well done, A+ for that. Reminds me of someone in Germany a long time ago, he could give some great speeches too.... but let's not go there. But content? Under Obama's plans everyone will be millionaires because of tax cuts, we'll all have cars that don't run on fossil fuels within ten years, and the war will just kind of take care of itself. The point that nobody seems to understand about taxes is that it is the top 5% bracket pays 65% OF ALL TAXES!!! That's a fact. Under Obama's plan, we're gonna give them tax increases, which will definitely encourage them to keep business here I'm sure. Yeah, great idea. Pretty soon every large corporation we have is gonna leave the U.S. and we'll just rely on the rest of the world for every single consumer good we need. And who needs jobs, right?

The Democrats are in a very unstable spot. They are in dissaray and don't know where they stand. They just throw out ideal situations, but don't understand the fundamentals behind what they are talking about. Inexperience, which is what Obama and Brown bring, is not what is needed in America right now. We need people who are going to go to work and get things done, not talk about it and fill our heads with more empty promises.

See, Chris, others like Cobracat picked her too, but they're not fawning all over themselves about it and saying, "See, see how cool I am." Get a grip. And, I am not disappointed by Romney, at all. He has no conservative credentials, not until he decided he needed to be. Palin does.

I just wish to congratulate Ms Austin for the fabulous accomplishment of being the absolute first to break this fantastic story. When I first read your post, early this morning, it almost sounded too good to be true!

I'm pumped myself. I'm worried thought that they are going to do a clarence thomas trick to her. How dair republicans break a glass ceiling. You never hear that bush has the largest amount of African Americans in prominent positions in his cabinet.

I was considering writing in a better choice for President as McCain and Obama are too liberal for my tastes. But with this VP pick, I am happy at least we have a better conservative choice.

Three days ago, I handed my wife a folded piece of paper. I told her it contained the name of the individual I predicted would be selected as the running mate for John McCain.

It was Sarah Palin.

I don't know if McCain-Palin can beat Obama-Biden, but it will be fun to watch. Sure, she's relatively unknown. But is she any more "unknown" than Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton were when they became presidential nominees?

I think she brings a breathe of fresh air to the party. The biggest naysayers are the tired old men who are ticked because they weren't named to the ticket.

By the way, I'm a 63-year-old male who has not yet decided who he will vote for in November.

Palin was a desperate pick.

McCain had to do something to try to change the dynamics of the race. He knows that a "safe" pick like Ridge or even Pawlenty would not work. He had to take a risk.

And a risk is what he has.

My very first thought was this: McCain is 72. His age is a factor people cannot ignore. But if something happens to him he will have a vice president completely lacking in the experience needed to run the country. No foreign policy creds. Domestic experience skewed to the very different circumstances in Alaska from the rest of the country. Here's what an AP news article said in a profile on Palin: "She has more experience catching fish than dealing with foreign policy or national affairs."

Don't get me wrong. Mrs. Palin is an impressive person. But she is the wrong person for McCain and for the country. In offsetting his age with a youthful VP nominee he failed to ask whether his VP is ready to lead the country.

This will be an interesting race. I applaud McCain for picking a woman but also recognize the political calculation that went into that choice. No doubt McCain feels Palin will appeal to many of the women disaffected by Hillary Clinton's defeat in the primary. No doubt she will pick up some. But he will lose a lot of other men and women in his own party and independents who don't want to take a chance that an untested young Alaskan may end up in the Oval Office.

Regarding my Father Gordon Nye Frank and Lee Frank 16789 Valley Hi Dr, Banning CA 92220
Elder Homicide in Riverside County- case closed by exception. Da said they called it a mutual combat when the only person who hit was the 27 year old.

Aug. 5 2007 my 68 yr old father was attacked in front of my 72 year old mother. Both Nye and Lee Frank have never been involved with the law. The 27 year old( 40 years diff) Ty Reddish has professional wrestling training. He admits on the audio tapes he used signature choke holds on my dad. The police interviews reveal that the guy has a combative disorder. Also it reveals a personal relationship with the father of the guy and the DA office. The case was closed without investigation as a mutual combat. There is not any proof that my father hit ever. And the injuries show a person who was beat with rage. The guy and family have followed my mother, told people not to visit her, or let her in her house. The Riverside Sheriff said that there is nothing they can do. My father led a very public life without violence. This is a terrible experience. We have tried getting help. We were always told by DA also that there is not a elder advocate when the DA just got a award for that division. The fire department put down no injuries on the report. The coroners report has homicide with natural causes as cause of death. The DA kept telling us it was a heart attack when the coroner said it was not. Attorneys say it will take too long to sue and too much money. Where is there justice for my father and mother? We have requested the lab, photos, and xrays and DA says no because we could sue them. The internal affairs was contacted by nova. They gave us the police report and autopsy as the sheriff and DA refused. After listening to the audios we asked them if they are investigation this. They said no they do not investigate just giving us the information. And stated that now that we made a complaint they cannot talk to us. The 27 year old also was never drug tested while on probation for DUI. DA refused to let the judge know before released off probation, and was let out of jail in three days without bail. We keep being told the DA has to be the one to do something. What if they wont as a favor to a friend. Where are my parents rights and protection. Also it is a area with a lot of other seniors. My mothers house is two doors from where this guy plans to put a house. Right across from the mail boxes and news stand. Can anyone or department help. The idea of a private attorney has not worked as it will take my mothers life time income and assests and she will be dead before end of case. Just watched her speech in Ohio. Wow! The rural homespun start worried me but then the policy portion: Wow! As woman across America get to know Sara, I suspect they are going to have tears in their eyes from pride and joy. She is eloquent, compelling, and moving. She connects on so many levels with all people about their inspirations for our country and the purpose of government. She is going to bring huge numbers of woman to support the McCain-Palin ticket.

The contrast to Hillary is amazing. Had Hillary not been so crassly political and arrogant she might have received her party's nomination. Instead, Sara talks and did as Councilmember, Mayor and Governor what all politicians should do: work to make government more productive for all people without taking more from our income.

She likely will consume the media buzz, drowning out Barack in People Magazine, as everyone rushes to learn more about her. She's got a great story personally and politically. I'm interest to hear how woman connect with her: the mother, the environmentalist, and the executive. She can speak with depth in policy better than Barack, because she has accomplishments. She potentially could eviscerate Biden during her debate simply with her personality, verbal efficiency and depth of accomplishments. Add in Biden's blabbermouth and history of failed foreign policies (opposed the first Gulf War, and tried to impose religious segregation on Iraq).

Could California be in play? Consider: (a) PPIC polls already show the race narrowing from 15% to 9%, and (b) 19.3 percent of California's registered voters are decline to state - not clear how many of those are female but overall 51% of registered voters are female. If Sara's addition to the ticket can sway DTS woman, which I think it can, then quite possibly yes California is in play.

Yes. Eyes on the Prize, a famous song of the civil rights era, the movement that, when supported by national Democrats, led to the political domination of the South by the Republican Party via the so-called Southern Strategy. How strange you would use the title of that song to make your point?

Let's look at how Republicans have governed this decade and ask, what "prize" is it that you are seeking?

Data points on Republican performance since 2001:
* Exploding national deficit
* Two wars that have not led to a safer and stronger America and which have cost well over 4,000 lives
* A culture so corrupt an indicted Senator can win a primary even in 2008
* Collapse of the housing market
* A middle class falling further and further behind (note today's report - another decline in real wages)
* Forsaken veterans
* Roll back of individual rights
* Roll back of environmental protections
* 250% increase in gas prices
* Increased dependence on foreign oil
* 250% increase in the cost to heat our homes
* Increasing levels of poverty
* Destruction of our national image overseas
* Rise of Russia
* Government mismanagement and incompetence
* Politicization of the DoJ
* No progress on bringing affordable health care to more Americans
* Inaction on climate change
* Inaction on energy conservation and development of alternatives
* Development of a corrosive and partisan political divide
* Sharp decline in the affordability of higher education
* No solution on immigration
* Massive transfer of jobs overseas
* Huge trade imbalance

Tom McClintock has nothing to offer to solve any of these problems. His solutions are the tired policies of the 1980s: Trickle-down economics and inhumane cuts to social programs. He places high priority on rolling back individual rights through a state constitutional amendment. He places highest priority on draconian immigration policies that are not only unrealistic and economically unsound they are cruel and inhumane.

So what is the prize? More of the same bad results?

So-called Republican stronghold voters around the country are waking up and realizing they do have a choice. They don't have to vote for politicians who are going to give them more of the same. More foreclosures. More wage cuts. More unemployment. More war. More division and intolerance. More of the same bad results.

California's District Four is not yours. It's not mine or the Democrats. It's a region in the State of California that has suffered significantly from Republican leadership and policies, though. It is people who can and will make up their own minds. And this time, I sincerely believe, they will reject the tired, failed policies of Tom McClintock and vote for renewal in America, in California and right here in CD4.

I predicted that Huckabee would be a major factor not to be discounted, in May of 2007 at a time when he was viewed as an "also ran" and nobody took him seriously. I believe that he exceeded everybodys expectations. A pity the establishment went after him as well. People like Mike. People wish to be like Mike. At least when it comes to his abilty to loose weight.

Compulsory service is a tradition that predates America. In the 13 colonies, every free, able-bodied white male was automatically part of the militia.

In WWII, some 1 in 5 adults had military experience (it is now 1 in 100.) All that Greatest Generation did was save individual liberty from the tyranny of fascism worldwide.

I don't think Buster is talking about a huge standing army designed for foreign conquest, just an understanding for young people, our future citizens and leaders, of what patriotism and duty really mean.
