Lincoln and Douglas argument Again in NYC Revival of ‘The Rivalry’

Irish Repertory stagecraft presents the revival to July 5. Previews began May 15. This year marks the 200th anniversary of the birth of Lincoln. Slavery and its elaborating was a dynamite concern in the esteemed debates.

"In 1858, two extraordinary men returned a podium to discussion issues that would slap the world," according to Irish Rep. "Abraham Lincoln besides Stephen Douglas, the nation’s indeed charismatic orators [and the respective candidate also incumbent U.S. Senator from Illinois], tackled these historic debates plant a craving and an energy which hypnotized the nation. Using their passionate words, playwright Norman Corwin opens the world of the past with phlogiston intensity and offers a play owing to trailblazing now the proved alacrity characters that inhabit it."

Christian Kaufman portrays Abraham Lincoln; Peter Cormican brings "the obvious Giant," Stephen Douglas, to life; Mary Linda Rapelye is Adele Douglas; and Doug Stender is the Republican Committeeman.

The cool span includes set designer Eugene D. Warner, garments designer Rosi Zingales, lighting designer Brian Nason, telling designer Zachary Williamson, individualizing sound designer Walter Mantani, production unfolding ringleader Elis C. Arroyo and assistant rule manager Pamela Brusoski.

Performances of The wrangling theatre Wednesday-Saturday at 8 PM. Matinees are Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday at 3 PM.
