He writes, sings, sometimes trading blows in the ring boxing. Bob Dylan, but is also familiar with another type of canvas, as a prolific painter quietly.
Nearly 100 works of art to commemorate the musician will be on display at the National Gallery of Denmark (Statens Museum for Kunst) next year, the museum said Tuesday.
The exhibition, set to open in the fall of 2010 in Copenhagen, will include the world premiere of 30 large format paintings in acrylic as well as works that have already been shown in European operations.
Many of the images of Dylan show an affinity for some of the modern masters, such as works by French artist Henri Matisse in 1920, said chief curator of the gallery, Kasper Monrad, who is organizing the exhibition.
"Bob Dylan’s visual art practice has only been discussed by art historians to a limited extent, then a critical examination and interpretation are asked," Monrad said in a statement released by Dylan Columbia Records.
Dylan the first times his paintings on display in 2007 at the Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz museum in the small German city of Chemnitz. Last year, a gallery in London, hosted an exhibition of his works.
The works of both places have been its "Drawn Blank" in the series. The paintings that will be presented for the first time in Denmark by "grave Brazil." A spokesman said that Dylan had no idea what the object was or how the series has come to be named.
