10 Surefire Ways to Renew Your Painting Passion

by admin on December 17, 2008

I was out sailing in the Pacific house yesterday on the theme of passion. If the passion is the wind that fills its sails and is moving the rudder is the inspiration that you use that power in a useful direction. Without the direction of our passion that is easy to just browse around in circles. Here are some tips on how to find inspiration:

1. Re-evaluate. Watch your latest works and the notes to see where you come and try to regain their previous notions of where they were headed.

2. Absorb. See other works of artists on the web or print media or galleries to spark the desire to create something beautiful.

3. Play. Just playing with his paintings until something starts to emerge. This can be fun.

4. Set a goal. Set a goal for learning and exploration of a theme or technique that generate their own inspirational thoughts. For example, today I will paint 4 small cloud studies of life using only 2 colors and white.

5. Explore. Go outside to explore on foot or by car, looking for things that catch your eye.

6. Feel. Start with a feeling or a piece of music or poetry – how to paint? Try to permeate everything you do with that feeling – from the first version of the mixture of paint, each stroke – let all the expression of an idea.

7. Take a break! Sometimes we push too hard. It’s amazing what you can do a little creativity to break.

8. Pray. I normally do not pray for things for myself, but both times I’ve been desperate enough to kneel and pray for a creative breakthrough, through God has come with great success – literally. Apart from that, let God have a hand in their work is an awesome experience. I have heard others call the "flow", where the work comes through you, not you. When you have finished the clear impression that you could not have done for yourself. There is a book there.

9. Meditate. I have found that meditation helps to be in first place with calm and focused, but also increases the powers of its creator, making it easier to think clearly and determination, view and be more open to powerfully infinite creative power of God .

10. Love Nothing great is created with love. The more love, more is to create – just look at parenting! I have heard that as artists we have to have a deep love for the big and small aspects of painting – from the same process for each of our brushes and paints. This is what comes down to – if you’re not loving what you’re doing, stop. Try to find that feeling again, or find something else to love.

There are endless ways to create an inspiration for the painting, and my list is only a drop in the ocean, so I encourage you to explore ways that suit you – whatever works, do it!
